CHAIRS REPORT 2011

The fall in membership numbers continues to be a concern to this and all regional groups. People were now reluctant to become 'paid' up members of numerous organisations when money is tight. On a brighter note there still seemed to be a wish to attend shows and events that are hosted.

As this reducing membership trend has continued over the last 10 years or so, the 'Group' committee appeared to be evolving into an 'Events Co-ordinators' ran by volunteers, with limited financial support from a small group of 'Show Supporters'. The benefit to these members by way of reduction to entry fees at shows and events organised by the group.

The Group must consider the impact social media and networking and how this has impacted on membership numbers, as there is no longer a need to physically travel to catch up with people with similar interests. and this is evident with a growing 'on line' group presence( with 157 followers). This avenue has been developed by the Group in a very small way and would appear to be the way forward to increase involvement organically (Chair was desperate to incorporate this word during the meeting!) whilst leaving traditional 'supporters' route open to develop direct involvement with the group and to ensure continuation of the committee.

FINANCE REPORT 2011

Pamela Duker apologised as it was realised that the previous years set of income/expenditure had been printed out for the meeting, and will ensure that this information is forwarded to committee over the coming week, however from memory the Group was expected to be at break even or to have made a smaller profit than had been achieved in 2010, that is £473.08.

MEMBERSHIP 2012

Alison Douglas thought that the reduction in membership had not been helped by the exclusion of the ability to join the group as part of a show entry, and lack of membership 'value'.

Chair recovered the reason that this decision was made by committee some years earlier, as the memberships received tended to be out of the region and was made to reduce the overall financial cost of entering the shows, resulting in lost income without gaining active members. The small number of current members all resided in the Northern Region.

Angela Johnson felt that if you became a member of a group, you should be willing to offer some support for the group whenever possible.

Fees are to remain the same for 2012 to reflect the current climate.

EVENTS 2012

SPRING SHOW 2012

15th April 2012 - Venue Bishop Burton College, Beverley, Yorks.

Schedule draft is now ready with the exception of the Affiliation numbers and

Judges. Once confirmed can be this will be forwarded to the AHS for approval.

The show will use one main ring and will run straight through as per the

schedule.

No overall Championships will be included in response to concerns from some

exhibitors about the need to remain at the show ground for a number of hours,

delaying some long journeys home.

Judges discussed and suggestions made. New judges are expected to join the

panel in 2012 with updated information from AHS expected in due course.

SUMMER SHOW 2012

17th June 2012 - Venue Bishop Burton College, Beverley, Yorks

Change of venue from Wetherby Racecourse, as a result of positive response to

Spring Show held in 2011, and some issues with the ground at Wetherby

raised in successive years by competitors and concern that Spring Show venue

was now 'out shining' the 'ECAHO' and 'HOYS' venue.

Schedule now drafted to take into account the use of two rings with ECAHO in

hand classes scheduled for the morning , followed by the HOYS ridden classes

in the afternoon to take place in the main indoor arena. This could be amended

as the number of entrants is taken into account, but as there are a number of

arenas available at the venue this is not seen as a problem.

It was proposed to section off part of the main ring to form a collecting area - this

will ensure that the DCs could operate effectively checking horses into the ring

whilst reviewing the general running of the ECAHO classes. In response to

some unsettling reading on certain arabian forums, as such committee

suggested that the Group seek to set a good example of conduct for showing in

our region.

Elaine Mann to organise DCs for the Summer Show 2012.

The second indoor ring will be used as a collecting/working in area - or would

become the second show ring if the weather becomes inclement.

The second outdoor ring would run in the same format, taking into account all

other inhand and ridden classes.

The requirement for additional outdoor PA system is to be taken up with the

college by Pamela Duker to see how with works with other 'events'

and it is expected that the announcer will be contacted by radio to make the

necessary calls as required.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Elaine Mann reported that the Group Show advert had been submitted to the

AHS for the 'Year Book' but we appeared to have missed the AHS advertising

deadline. The AHS also would not take show reports into the 'Year Book'.

Chair requested that the AHS be contacted as a matter of urgency to see if this

could be resolved or the editorial included as the Group had not had the benefit

of any editorial for some years and it was important that our exhibitors were

aware of our new and exciting plans for 2012 and what had taken place in

2011.

Angela Johnson offered to assist the Group in 2012 as she did not expect to be

able to show and this offered was happily accepted with Angela unanimously

co-opted onto the committee for 12 months.

Meeting closed 12.30 p.m

Next meeting for committee members proposed for Sunday 26th Feb 2012 at

11.00 a.m in the coffee lounge of the Bridge Inn, Walshford
